Gonzalo Molano's extensive musical career spans a wide range of musical styles and performance situations in the United States and abroad. His musical training began thirty-three years ago in his hometown, Bogota, Colombia, in South America. There, he attended prestigious music programs for the youth such as the Music Conservatory at the National University of Colombia and others. Although his heart has always belonged to the infernal music of the abyss, at an early age he realized the importance of developing a solid guitar technique as well as a complete and well-structured knowledge of music and it's theory.
At age fifteen, Gonzalo met Professor Thomas Patterson, director of the Bolton Guitar Studies Program at the University of Arizona. Professor Patterson rapidly picked up on his talent and brought him to study in Arizona under a full scholarship. Gonzalo completed a Bachelor and Master's degree in Music with an emphasis in Guitar Performance. Also, during this time he won the first prize award at several guitar competitions including the 2001 Texas Guitar Competition in Dallas, the 2003 Society of American Musicians - Guitar Competition in Chicago, and more. Gonzalo is regularly invited to form a part of the jury panel in several important guitar competitions.
In 2005, while visiting his hometown, he received a call to substitute a musician who had canceled at the last minute. This turned out not to be an ordinary engagement. The Colombian Symphony Orchestra was scheduled to perform Antonio Vivaldi's violin concertos "The Four Seasons" at the prestigious Teatro Colsubsidio Roberto Arias Perez where the tickets had been sold out. Gonzalo spent four sleepless nights arranging and learning the guitar part from a continuo (keyboard) score of over one-hundred pages. The performance was attended by an audience of one-thousand and was a great success! Other memorable performances include the Dame Myra Hess Series at the Chicago Cultural Center, which reached an audience of about one-hundred-thousand over radio and TV networks in the Chicago area.
Gonzalo has played a wide range of musical styles, from classical, to country, latin american, jazz, and of course, rock and metal. In the last years, he has become a well respected member of the Southern Arizona musical scene. He performs frequently with his bands Battering Ram (Old School Metal), Bad Habit (80's Rock & Metal), and Black River (country).
